Overthinking Art Print

As an air sign and someone who has struggled for most of my life with obsessive compulsive thought patterns, I’m in my head. A LOT. And being in my head all the time causes me to lose touch with being grounded in my body, which is just as uncomfortable.

In this piece, the distortion of colors in the water is both a visual representation of the physical dissociation which occurs with obsessive compulsive thoughts as well as the need to practice a “go-with-the-flow” state to rebalance the feeling of overwhelming thought patterns, allowing them to float away like ripples of water naturally do.

The form is reaching up in what appears to be a relaxed position on the edge of a pool, however, for the over-thinker, its actually representative of holding on to something stable when drowning in thoughts.

I have heard before that I have a very zen and calming presence. While that may be true and is absolutely flattering if people feel that way around me, it doesn’t always correlate to what’s going on in my inner world. This piece intends to illustrate this juxtaposition; the many dualities of a soul experiencing human life.
